BEER - the universal language (or so I thought)!!
Well after an exhaustive 21 hours - I'm here is San Francisco (Hooray)... To put it in perspective I'll recount the last day....
After purposely depriving myself of sleep on the morning of our flight, we left our home in the suburbs of Brisbane organised (or part thereof) and ready to tackle the challenges that lay ahead. My aunt Jacq had kindly offered to drive us all to the airport however some "unscheduled" stops were required before we could safely board - one being the purchase of new sheets made by my mother - why she would require new sheets on the day of her leaving Brisbane..... I'm still yet to answer... Anyways much laughter and enjoyment had by all.
Feverishly, we checked in 10 minutes prior to the counters were closed and for some strange reason Jacq left in a great hurry.... leaving smoke gushing from my newly acquired BMW 323i tyres...
Now the Air New Zealand flight was good, the service & food was excellent (we were served either a pasta Salmon or Rib Eye and in the morning, either full breakfast pancakes....). Upon our arrival in Auckland I decided to have a few beers over dinner - but that is where it dawned on me as I took my first (& final) sip - Kiwis aren't known for their beer - the saddest thing was the label said "New Zealand's finest lager...?"
We hopped back on the plane and for the remainder of the 12 hr flight drifted in between sleep and exploring the many games, videos and television shows provided on our independent TV screens.
Finally arrived at LAX earlier this morning, saying farewell to my parents who had decided to explore southern California (San Diego) whereas I had decided to head north to San Francisco.... via Southwest airlines....
After a 2 hour delay our plane boarded and I was fuming - as I had purposely bought a business class ticket but found myself sitting with the remaining economy passengers.... Soon all was forgiven as the hostess provided me with a continual stream of Heineken at no charge for the 90 minute flight.... and that is, where the confusion started....
The air hostess walked down the isle asking everyone politely "Would you care for a drink?" As she approached me and asked, I blurted out G'day I'll have one of you Heiney's please - (honestly thinking nothing of it....) For those of you that may not understand - Heiney is (i think) American slang for butt... Anyway I quickly got over that embarrassing moment and continued onward.
I am now sitting in my top floor King Size room opposite Union Square in Downtown San Fransisco - the hotel is quite nice with a massive television, walk-in and being in downtown very handy to restaurants & bars (I will not be asking for a Heiney again -and definitely not in San Francisco)...
Tomorrow I may look to head towards Fisherman's Wharf, the Mission district as well as take a / organise a tour of Alcatraz & the Golden Gate Bridge... tonight may be just a quiet beer and a good rest ready for tomorrow..
Thanks for reading - Stay tuned for more foot in mouth moments....
